About
Connie Bowles
Connie grew up watching her mom make clothes for herself, her children, and their dolls. It was a natural move for Connie to use her mom’s Kenmore sewing machine to make her own clothes from seventh grade through high school. After moving to Hong Kong, she stopped sewing and picked up needlepoint. Upon her return to the States, knitting, crocheting and, of course, needlepointing kept her busy while she worked in California's high-tech industry.
On the occasion of very close friends expecting their first child, Connie ventured into quilting in 2002. Normally she would have knitted a baby blanket, however, her daughter had expressed an interest in quilting, so Connie thought she would give it a try as well. It quickly became her passion. In 2006, she started a quilt group at her church. In 2007, she joined the Peninsula Quilters Guild of San Mateo, California.
Connie began teaching quilting classes in 2014. She started with beginning quilting and soon added classes for Ricky Tims' Convergence Quilts and Maxine Rosenthal's One Block Wonder Quilts. Connie has enjoyed teaching at Scruffy Quilts in San Mateo, California (now closed); The Cotton Patch in Lafayette, California; the Kauai Quilt Guild in Lihue, Kauai; and her own Peninsula Quilt Guild. She finds teaching fun and personally rewarding.
Recently, Connie designed a baby quilt pattern and is hoping to soon share it more broadly. The Happy Wonky Quilt pattern was introduced to her quilt guild in a class over Zoom and again on a quilt cruise, and the pattern was received with enthusiasm. You can see photos of sample quilts in Connie's picture gallery.
Connie and her husband Mark live in San Mateo, California. They are a blended family with four adult children, and five delightful grandchildren. Connie pieces on her Janome 6600 and quilts on a Bernina Q20 sit down quilting machine.
